3M 05710 Superbuff Pad/Buffer Adapter has a 5/8-11 internal thread which turns onto a polisher on one end and a short 5/8-11 external thread on the other end.
Used with Superbuff™ pads to keep the polisher shaft from hitting the car's paint finish.

For use with Superbuff pads 05700, 07501, 05705, and 05718.
Also works with Perfect-It Back-up pad 05718.
